Oliver Hutton
Oliver Hutton (Aka Olive, Oli, Ol, OJ, Hutton, and ‘Sir, this isn’t a coupon, I just saw you write it in crayon, and you misspelt restaurant’) is a Bristol based scriptwriter who dabbles in all genres and formats, but with a focus on comedy screenwriting. He blends absurdity, wit, and topical themes to create what he calls ‘a fun time for some of the family’.
Smile is a short film set in a world where a large number of the population take pills that make them smile, but only on the outside. The film follows Troy as he struggles to come to terms with the death of his fiancé, and whether he should take the pills, so he can smile again.
Mike Williams
MEET THE WRITER
Michael was born in Kent and studied drama and creative writing at Bath Spa University, graduating in 2014. He returned to the university in 2016 to study a Masters Degree in Scriptwriting, with the intention of developing a career in writing for theatre, focusing particularly on the representation of our relationship with new technology on stage.
The Feed is a one man stage play revolving around Daniel, a young vlogger who volunteers to be locked in a room for a year, living only off of the donations of the viewing public, who can watch every second via a live video feed. As The Feed progresses, secrets about Daniel's past are uncovered by his viewers, and he quickly learns that choosing to live your life in front of the entire world means you have nowhere to hide if it turns against you.

Sophie Torry-Cook
Sophie is a short film-maker, focussing on the darker elements of the world and lifting them with humour. She has worked with bands to create unique music videos. She has gained valuable creative partners through the course and hopes to expand her collaborative production company by the end of the year.
‘Inside We’re All Pink’, looks at what happens when society takes away your choices, and how simple it can be to take the easier route in life, than to risk the skin off your back doing what you desire. With striking costume and life shattering surrealness, Sophie strives for everyone to leave the cinema feeling mildly depressed.

Laurence Guy
Beatrice's main passions in life are in creating and producing work. After a successful production at last year's Bath Fringe, she hopes to carry on producing for bigger and better events.
She is the co-ordinator and head of the production team for the Bath Spa Showcase and feels that it is the most important aspect of the Masters course.
Her piece is to be decided (she's worn herself out planning and booking!)

Justus Macharia is a writer/director from Kenya who has written for radio, theatre, television and film. He has directed two student films; a 10min Experimental Short Film which was requested by and submitted to ‘PROMOFEST’ (An online short film festival), and a 12min Commercial film screened at as an art-house cinema. Having spent the last six years of his life outside Kenya, Justus has developed stories that are specific to his cultural heritage but aimed at an international audience because of his belief in universal human truths.
The Peculiar Allergy of Shakes Thejane is a romantic drama about Shakes Thejane, a man diagnosed with a disease that makes him allergic to human beings, leading to his physical and emotional isolation from society, however everything changes when Shakes falls in love with Rachel Brooks, a talented chiropractor with her own intimacy issues. The Peculiar Allergy of Shakes Thejane is a radio play exploring the themes of isolation and intimacy.

Aaliyah has been writing plays since she was 18. After completing her undergraduate degree in Creative Writing & Drama Studies at Bath Spa University, she's written 2 full length plays and 8 short plays.
She was long-listed for the British Theatre Challenge in 2015.
Her showcase play follows nineteen year old Elizabeth, who finds a ring in her boyfriend’s bedroom during a search for their daughter’s lost teddy bear. At first she’s excited at the thought of a proposal, however the more she thinks about her past and current situation, the more she starts to question whether or not it would be wise for her to say yes.

Clare gained a merit for her M.A. degree in Creative Writing at the University of Gloucestershire in 2015. Radio has always been a passion and the Bath Spa University Scriptwriting M.A. has given her a chance to compete in the exciting world of audio drama.
Her showcase piece will be a drama/documentary for radio.

Jason is a filmmaker who’s extremely keen in telling stories and being on the MA Scriptwriting course has pushed him to writing across new types of mediums he wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to write for. Five years ago Jason co-found the production company Caged Magpie Productions, which has currently produced five short films. Amongst these five, Jason wrote and directed 'Light Bulb Sun' (2012) and 'Displaced' (2016)
.Caged Magpie Productions has made a promotional trailer to aid a crowd funding campaign to support the production of Jason's third short film, Death by Design. Which will have its debut screening at The Night of the Shorts.

For as long Ben can remember he'd wanted to write films and TV series, although he hadn’t considered writing professionally until fate put a script in his hands that he was paid to translate and anglicise. It was a rewarding experience in many ways and spurred him on to study the craft – the MA at Bath Spa being the culmination of a long and interesting journey.
An 12 minute excerpt from a series of radio plays that explore how the secret services are recruiting ever younger operatives to keep the nation safe. During a debrief from the the country's Head of Operations, Dan Ashford, a mid-ranking Mi5 agent, has to justify the recruitment of an 18 year-old white British schoolgirl Misty Taylor who he’s used off the record to infiltrate a group of young jihadists.

MEET THE WRITER








Laurence is a screenwriter and playwright based just outside of Bath. With an undergraduate degree in ‘Psychology and Drama’ his work has explored themes such as: ‘trauma’, ‘identity’ and ‘war and society’.
As a screenwriter, Laurence has written two short films for ‘Rare Moustache Productions’, the first of which ‘The Trip’ screened at the London Sci-fi Film Festival and was later optioned by Wildseed studios. In 2016 his dark modern fable, ‘The Gift’, was produced by seven different directors before being showcased at the Picturehouse cinema in Bath. Laurence’s debut one act play ‘Husk’ is due to be staged in ‘The Room Above Theatre’ in Bristol in Autumn 2017.
Laurence is showing his short dystopian thriller Scavenger, set in a world where resources have become scarce and society has turned into tribal groups of militia. We follow Abbie and Daniel as they escape a bloody and brutal battle to take refuge in a forest - only to find scarier forces lie in wait for them.
